Hi everyone, and welcome!

My name is Veda L. Blanchewood, and I’m so excited to start this little corner of the internet where I’ll share my writing journey, memories from childhood, and behind-the-scenes moments from my upcoming book The Candy Jar Chronicles.

The idea for my book comes from something very real and very sweet from my childhood. Back in the early 1980s, when I was growing up in Buffalo, New York, there was a woman in the neighborhood who would give kids candy. Not just on special occasions, but regularly—like it was her way of sprinkling a little joy into our days.

I can still remember the excitement of running over with my friends, not knowing what treat she might hand out. It wasn’t just about the candy—it was the kindness, the way she made us feel special. That memory has stayed with me all these years.

Now, as a writer, I wanted to capture that mix of sweetness, mystery, and childhood adventure in a story. The Candy Jar Chronicles is my way of honoring those moments and showing how something small—like a piece of candy—can bring people together, spark curiosity, and create memories that last a lifetime.
